Dog Friendly Resorts Colorado – I thought I’d start with a trip that starts at one of the most, if not the most, photo spots in Colorado: Maroon Lake. Towering above Maroon Lake are the Maroon Bells, two of Colorado’s fourteen (mountains over 14,000 feet high). This place obviously sees many people and children throughout the days because it is so beautiful and accessible. You can park a few hundred feet from the lake or take a flight during hours when cars are not allowed on the road to Maroon Lake. One thing to make sure is to plan well!
From Maroon Lake you can take the trail to Crater Lake, which is about 1.4 miles from the lake. Here you can get a better idea of how big Maroon bells really are!

From the mountain pass you can see several peaks and Snowmass Lake in the distance. When I first hiked up Buckskin Pass and saw Snowmass Lake in the distance, I knew I had to make it there one day. In fact, we recently decided to take Koda on this adventure and boy did he have the best time of his life! If you’re feeling more adventurous, prepare for a long day hike (~16 miles) or spend the night packing your bags at this amazing lake!
Walking through the Maroon Bells Forest is sure to be an unforgettable experience, with 360° views all around you wherever you set foot!
Next, let’s travel to a place you wouldn’t think could be in a place like Colorado. The large sand dunes that hang in the mountains offer unique hiking opportunities in the Great Sand Dunes National Park! Since there are no signs on the sand, you can choose your own path to get amazing views of the dune area and the surrounding mountains! This is one of the few national parks that allows dogs, so it’s important to follow all the rules and regulations!
While in the dunes be sure to try sand boarding or sledding! You can rent a small shop outside the park! This attraction may be better for people, but if you go in early summer, players can enjoy splashing in Medano Creek after sand in the sand! Remember that the sand can be very hot, so I recommend walking in the early hours and at the end of the day and wearing some shoes to protect your wet towel!

There’s nothing like hiking with your dog in the San Juan Mountains of Colorado! High mountains and deep blue lakes make this place my favorite! I always want to go back and explore all that these mountains have to offer!
This 7.5 mile hike with an elevation gain of 2,900 feet will take you to some of the most stunning lakes you will ever see. First, the Ice Sea whose water is so blue you can’t believe it’s real, then the Island Sea, named for the beautiful little island in the middle of the lake!
You can also extend the trip in this area by visiting some of the lakes of the Ice Basin. This area is also a great place to backpack!
I can’t list the best trips with your dog without including the mountains! It is important to know your dog’s abilities when choosing a stone like this! Mount Sniktau is thirteen feet high, or 13,000 feet. Although it’s a short hike as you start from Loveland Pass which is at an elevation of about 12,000 feet, it definitely gets your heart pumping and your lungs working hard!

The views from mountains like Mount Sniktau are some of my favorites because you get to see so much of the Colorado mountains. Mount Snictou not only gives you views of some of Colorado’s 14ers, but also views of ski resorts including Breckenridge and Arapahoe Basin. Standing on this mountain you really feel like you are on top of the world! Some happy creatures like pikas and marmots may welcome you on this trip, but be careful that your dog may try to chase them away like my dog did!
Finally, I’ll end the list with one of our favorite “return” travel spots. We want to get closer to God’s Paradise. There are many trails throughout the park that offer amazing rock formations and views of Pikes Peak. This is a great place for short trips, with many options for longer trips. The park also has some paved trails, making it a great place for a nice walk at sunset!
When traveling in Colorado with your dog, it is always important to research the area to understand the level of difficulty and distance. Also, pay attention to the procedures required in this particular area. For example, most of these tours require dogs to be kept on a leash.
