I didn’t think there was anything to do outside. She was hot. Oh! Yes. Very. Human beings. With a good search, we found some great things to do in this country. In this post, I’ve rounded up the best things to do for dogs in Texas and organized them for you to make your own.

Top Reasons To Vacation In Ruidoso
This 3.5 mile walk from downtown is not your typical commute. But, it’s perfect for a quick walk with the dog, a bike ride or a wheelchair. The Katy Trail Ice House is located along the trail where you can stop for a cold margarita and dinner in their large outdoor dining area. This is my favorite dog restaurant in all of Dallas!
Touring is a fun (and inexpensive) way to see and learn more about Dallas. They offer 4 self-guided hikes ranging from 0.5 miles to 2 miles. Every tour can be easily tracked with their app! They give you fun facts and make the journey an interactive game! It can be a great night out or a group challenge!
Cost: You can buy each tour for $12.99 or simply pay $19.99 for unlimited monthly access to all games and tours.
Even if you can’t hike in Dallas, Cedar Hills Nature Reserve is a great getaway. Less than 20 minutes from town, you’ll find 600 acres and 9 miles of trails. A great spot for butterfly watching, bird watching or a post-hike picnic. It is non-profit and will be limited to donations!

After wandering the charming streets and storefronts of Vines City, take the pup to the lake for a swim.
Grab your pup, rent a paddle board with Backwoods Paddle Sports and head down the Trinity River. You’ll be right in the heart of Fort Worth with views of the city all around you! After the rental, the staff will explain the different options and you will be on your way.
They also rent kayaks (solo and tandem) and kayaks, or you can rent your own at Panther Island!
Note: They require all dogs to wear life jackets. If you don’t have one, you can rent one for just $5.00!
A Road Trip With Dogs: Dog Friendly Destinations
The Fort Worth Stockyards is definitely one of my favorite places in the DFW metroplex. When you think of Texas, you automatically think of longhorns, cattle, rodeos and country music. I
You and your dog can enjoy daily cattle drives (11 and 4), window shopping, people watching and barbecues.
Cost: Walking the streets is free, but you have to pay for parking and additional activities.
Coyote Drive is open 7 days a week. Tickets can be purchased from 6:00 p.m. ($8 for adults, $4 for children). Now they play a movie on each of the four screens. After choosing your movie, head to the Coyote Restaurant for all the movie snacks. Check out their current schedule here!

This was the first place that really changed my view of Texas. After a few miles of hiking across the plains, you’ll be happy to find the 2nd largest canyon in the United States. I recommend walking the lighthouse trail here as you will be amazed by the natural rock formations. Super easy and totally dog āāfriendly!
Tip: While I wouldn’t recommend this hike due to the extreme heat in the summer, Texas is hot year round. Be sure to fill your day pack with a full hydration pack!

Dog-friendly road stops for your Texas road trip. At this one-of-a-kind roadside attraction, you can admire 10 Cadillacs, take pictures, and even get your sign spray painted. You can buy spray paint in the Second Amendment gift shop!

A great unique and dog friendly trail to add to your West Texas bucket list! Located in Alpine, this hike is a 1.8 mile hike down the mountain on an old school tableā¦. I meanā¦ awesomeā¦ but unique. The trail is right next to the college and years ago many students carried the table from start to finish and now it’s the last fun stop on your tour! There is also a bicycle rack next to the table.
In addition to the trees and the unusual table on the bike, you can enjoy a 360 view of the city. It’s a very quick ride at sunrise or sunset!

Although the neighboring state park is not dog friendly, the state park itself is amazing! (I’d argue it’s even more amazing because you can enjoy it with your dog!) There are plenty of dog-friendly tours and amazing places to see.
Located outside of Grand Arch Ranch State Park, you’ll find the ruins of an old mining town. You can walk around the cemetery, visit the old prison and see other ruins. There is a gift shop and several restaurants to check out after your visit.
While there are many unique places to choose from near Terlingua, I recommend staying at Ocotillos Village. These bright looking tents allow for ultimate stargazing from a flexible ceiling!
If you’ve spent any time on Instagram, you’ve probably seen this unique trend. Even though there’s not much to do here, it’s a great photo op!
Galveston Island: A Dog Lover’s Paradise
Did you know there are sand dunes in Texas?! They are hidden, but make a big hole in the big turn of the road. Rent a sleigh from the gift shop and spend the day riding the hills!
Located in downtown Austin, you and your child can explore a variety of theme parks. The gardens are open from 9am to 6pm, but you must book tickets in advance online.
Within 13 miles of the state, you and your dog can swim, hike and/or camp at one of 81 campsites.
The Barton Creek Farmers Market, held every Sunday from 10-10pm, is a great place to check out all the food and craft vendors! Killing dogs are welcome.
Vacation Spots In Tx On The Water
Climb to the top in Austin for great views of the Colorado River, Austin, and Texas Country. Although Mount Bonnell is 775 feet above the city, the rapids are only 0.5 mph. It’s a great place to have a picnic or watch the sunset.
You and your child can explore Austin. During the ghost tour, you will walk through the town and hear stories for about 90 minutes. Austin Tours also offers morning tours, killer walks and private tours!
Who doesn’t love a miniature golf course? And it’s cooking the dog that makes it 100 times better! You can also bring a cooler with snacks/lunch and drinks!
