Carmel enjoys a mild Mediterranean climate year-round, making it an attractive destination regardless of the season. Summers are generally warm but not hot, with temperatures between 60 °F and 70 °F (15 °C to 21 °C). Light layers, a hat and sunscreen are recommended during the day, and a light jacket or sweater is ideal for cooler evenings. This is peak season for the area, so expect more crowds and higher prices. What surprises people the most is how foggy it can be in the summer along the California coast. The fog can be very unpredictable, sometimes burning in the afternoon and other times stretching from sunrise to sunset. In autumn, the temperature remains pleasant, although it can start to cool down, especially at night. The winter months, from December to February, bring cooler temperatures of 50°F to 60°F (10°C to 15°C) and occasional rain. During this time, it is wise to pack a warm coat, waterproof shoes and an umbrella. Spring is slowly bringing warmth with temperatures climbing back into the 60s and a mix of sunny and cloudy days. Layering is ideal for this unpredictable weather. No matter when you visit, always bring comfortable walking shoes to navigate Carmel’s unusual, but often bumpy, cobblestone streets.

We stayed at the Cypress Inn for my birthday in 2019 and enjoyed our room, property and central location. It’s a bit old/historic in style, but extremely dog friendly. Our room had a private entrance from their terrace and was very spacious. I’ve heard mixed reviews about living here. Some have mentioned that because it is older, it can be noisy and you can easily hear your neighbors. If you or your dog are sensitive to noise, I definitely recommend this option of a more remote room.
