Living in Brisbane during the Covid restrictions and border closures has given us the opportunity to do more local travel. And local adventures mean our Beagle Great Dane is always included in our travel plans. about me

I’m Sasha, mother of a Great Dane and owner of Arctic Mist. A few years ago, I never went more than a few months without an international vacation. But times have changed and in recent years we have done a lot of local travel with our Pickle Great Dane, mainly around South East QLD. Unfortunately Pickles passed away last year. But recently we welcomed a Great Dane puppy, Pumpkin, into our family. He follows Pickles and goes on many adventures.
Dog Friendly Days Out
So I thought I’d share some of my favorite dog-friendly places to stay in South East QLD, including work and accommodation links.

There are many dog camps around Australia and Camp Hip is a great place to start. You can enter the number of pets in your search and the results will only show pet-friendly options.
One of my favorite dog friendly places to visit is Garden Country Camp in Kumbura Valley. It is located above Cunninghams Gap between Aratula and Warwick, 2 hours from Brisbane. We have camped there many times, first going there many years ago (long before the pickling days) when it was a ramshackle ranch. It has changed a lot over the years and now has facilities, glamping sites and cabins.
Dog Friendly Rentals
Although lodges and campgrounds are dog-friendly, they do not allow dogs inside the rooms (only on porches and porches). We have never stayed in a cabin for this reason. If you go out during school/public holidays, you will find a place by the river. However, you need a 4WD to get to the best campsites. Access to Gordon Country is on a dirt track and there is a site near the entrance and office that can be accessed without a 4WD.
Dogs can get off the leash, which is great. But be careful as there are cattle and long range donkeys on the property. We like to go there and relax around the campfire, but there are many 4WD and walking trails. If you don’t mind the cold, you can swim in the river, if you go in winter, take your warm clothes, it will be very cold!
There are several campsites on North Stradbroke Island. Rules regarding dogs seem to be constantly changing, so it’s a good idea to check the Stradbroke Island website for the latest information on dog-friendly campsites and beaches. Stradbroke Island is a 45-minute ferry ride from Cleveland. There is public transportation on Stradbroke Island, but if you are bringing your dog, I recommend taking your car on the ferry. Remember dogs must be muzzled to get out of the car on the boat. Stradbroke Island also has dog friendly holiday homes, see below for more details.
If you’re looking for a vacation home/apartment, Vacation With Dogs is a great site to find dog-friendly accommodations. Each property lists pet-friendly features, such as if the property is fenced, whether dogs are allowed and whether they provide dog beds, bowls, and poop bags.
Pet Friendly Florida Vacation Rentals
Be sure to read the terms and conditions as some places only allow dogs outside or a limited number of dogs
. If the terms are unclear, contact the accommodation provider before booking. It’s better to be honest in advance than to have a problem in the middle of your vacation!
Make sure the layout of the apartment is appropriate, such as whether your dog has access to stairs or an elevator, a fenced yard, or space for your dog to do his business. If you’re not sure, don’t be afraid to call and ask.
We stayed in a lovely 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom apartment (Alex’s Perfect Beach Pad) on Alexandra Headland, north of Mooloolaba on the Sunshine Coast. It is located on the second floor and there are stairs to access the apartment. However, it has a beautiful view on a large terrace, so it doesn’t feel like an apartment. Dogs are allowed inside the house, but not on the furniture or the shared swimming pool.
How You Can Have The Best Dog Friendly Getaway In Gainesville, Fl
It’s a short walk to Headland and Mooloolaba. The Esplanade at Mooloolaba has plenty of dog-friendly restaurants with outdoor seating, as well as the Every 1 Sunset Market.
Mooloolaba Beach is not dog friendly. However, Alexandra Headland Beach is dog-friendly, and there are many dog-friendly beaches further afield.
Noosa Avalon Cottages is situated on 30 acres, 5 minutes from downtown Pomona and approximately 30 minutes from Noosa. The property has 5 independent houses ranging from 1 bedroom cottages to 3 bedroom houses. They are all dog friendly and allow dogs. We stayed in a 2 bedroom, 1 bathroom Kangaroo Lodge. The cottage is very nice, has a large living room with a beautiful view and a great spa. The bed is small (double) but I would still recommend it for a quiet stay.
Some cottages have secure floors for your dog. Kangaroo House has a fenced yard, but the fence is meant to keep out cows, not dogs. The property is great for walking, with native gardens and plenty of wildlife and birds, as well as free-roaming cattle, so you’ll need to keep your dog on a lead.
Your Guide To Dog Friendly Travel In Minnesota
Pomona is a small country town with many restaurants, cafes and an IGA supermarket. There is a dog-friendly local market at Stan Topper Park on Saturday mornings. They have a lot of local handicrafts/handmade goods and food stalls.
Toowoomba is QLD’s largest inland city, known as the Garden City. Many people visit the famous flower festival in spring. It is a very beautiful city with many parks and gardens to explore.
We have stayed in Toowoomba many times. However, my favorite place is the cozy cat hut in Toowoomba. Beautifully renovated 3 bedroom Queenslander cottage. It is one of three original workers’ cottages listed on the heritage line. This listed cottage retains all the charming details and atmosphere of its heritage, but has been modernized to provide modern comforts. Downstairs is a loft with 2 queen bedrooms and 2 single beds suitable for children. It has 1 bathroom with a large bathtub, an electric fireplace in the living room and a kennel on the back porch suitable for small / medium dogs. The yard is fully fenced, but there are steps to access the yard from the back deck.
Dogs are allowed inside the cottage, not just in the carpeted bedroom or sofa. The bathroom and kitchen were well stocked and we even had dog biscuits on arrival! Hosts Janice and Michael were great. We would definitely stay there again.
Our Whirlwind Weekend In Dog Friendly Hill Country
Mudjimba is a quiet beach suburb on the Sunshine Coast, close to Sunshine Airport. The Esplanade at Mudjimba Beach has a lovely garden which is dog friendly. North Shore Dog Beach, south of Mudjimba in Twin Waters, is rated as one of the best dog beaches on the Sunshine Coast.
Mudjimba vacation rentals have many pet-friendly accommodation options and Kirsty was a pleasure to deal with. We stayed in a lovely four bedroom apartment on the Esplanade overlooking the garden. We went with family and took 2 dogs with us (our wonderful Dean and an older family member’s dog). Dogs are allowed indoors, just on the furniture.
There is a nice Italian restaurant and cafe on the esplanade with outdoor seating for dogs.
Hervey Bay is a must if you have a boat or love the ocean! We went with friends and stayed at The Sandpiper, a lovely 4 bedroom house in Craigish, 10 minutes north of central Hervey Bay. Craignish is a quiet residential area but perfect for us as it had a large yard for kids and dogs and enough space to park the boat. The house has everything you need
