Good Dog Friendly Walks Near Me – No matter what kind of walk you want to take your dog, there are plenty of dog walks on the NSW Central Coast. From walks in state forests and dog reserves to easy dog walks along beaches and lakes, choose your dog walk.
The Central Coast is home to several national parks with excellent hiking trails, which unfortunately are off limits to dogs. Instead, for a Central Coast dog walk, I recommend going to Strickland State Forest.

Dogs are welcome to visit the state forest, 10 minutes north of Gosford. Until recently, dogs in state forests had to be kept only under supervision, so they were often left off the leash. However, the latest guidelines state that dogs must remain on a leash with your authority.
Dog Friendly Walks In The Peak District
One of the most popular hiking trails is the Arboretum trail. This custom 2.3km walk takes you through one of Australia’s oldest pine forests, a collection of native and exotic trees including giant Australian red cedars, pines and pines. On the way, you also pass over a beautiful drawbridge.
This path is easy to walk, although it is very muddy after the rain and the leaves are dangerous when they are wet. The last road in the state forest is not closed. Generally good for 2 wheel vehicles, but after heavy rain we recommend a jump at the bottom of Stoney Creek Carpark, downhill. However, the Banksia Picnic Area car park, where the walk starts, is reached via a 1.5km flat road which can be affected by rain.
You don’t have to go to the Central Coast State Forest to enjoy a scenic walk with your dog. An excellent short but easy walk can be found at Norah Head, the Norah Head Trail.
This walk can be started from two cars – either from the Norah Head lighthouse car park, which can be very busy at weekends, or from the large car park near the Bush Street reserve on the other side. Dogs must be kept on a leash.
The well-maintained 800 m long path is easy to follow, with signs indicating the different types of plants and the importance of certain types of plants. There are also two whale watching sites along the trail – one midway through the trail and the other in the Bush Street Reserve.

Traditionally, the round trip ends with a walk along the beach and along the cliffs to Norah Head lighthouse. However, dogs are not allowed on Central Coast beaches unless they are marked as off-leash beaches, and I saw at least one off-leash dog on the main beach at Norah Head. Instead, I recommend retracing your steps.
However, regardless of which end of the trail you depart from, I recommend extending the walk by continuing to Norah Head Lighthouse. This bright white building is a beautiful sight, outside the head offers a good view of the surrounding beach. There is still about 300m of walking in each direction to the end of the reservoir.
A popular walking route around the entrance is the Beach to Lake Walk. This 7.6 km walk is true to its name, passing Tuggerah beach and lake, before cutting off and joining the island.
Since access to dogs is prohibited in the 2nd section, and the 3rd section is not interesting, we recommend that if you go on the track with a dog that you only go on the 1st and 4th sections , go back the same way. This easy dog walk is about 3.8 km each way and will take about 2.5 hours to return. Road signs and maps are on the way.

Now a new ecological experience is developed, but you can still see many pelicans when they gather at the traditional feeding time every afternoon. The neighborhood of Long Jetty gets its name from the long jetty that is connected to Lake Tuggerah from that area. Originally built in 1914, but rebuilt after the 1927 hurricane, the pier actually predates the area.
Long Jetty is actually one of three bridges along the Tuggerah section of the Lake, but it is still the longest, at 1,152 feet, or 351 m. It’s a fun place to walk your dog, or add it to a walk from the beach to the lake or as a walk alone. Although it would have been better if there was no west wind on the day of our visit!
There is easy parking and facilities next to the long jetty, including resort accommodation and wooden sunbeds. In addition, there is a covered toilet area with interesting pictures about the history of the pier and its surroundings.

In 2021, a beautiful 200m long promenade connecting Terrigal Beach and Terrigal Haven, emerging from the large lots, was completed. Fortunately, dogs are allowed to join the walkway that connects these dog-friendly parts of Terrigal Beach.
Start anywhere along Terrigal Beach – as the walk starts at the north end of the Esplanade, opposite Painters Lane. Then follow the walkway into the walkway and exit the promenade at the Haven.
Follow the path past the boat dock and car park at Terrigal Haven. A large patch of grass on the hill is marked as an off-leash kennel, so you can leave your dog off-leash. Just be aware of the boundaries as it is not fenced and there is parking nearby.
If you are not up with the Career, we recommend that you eventually look at the opposite. Alternatively, continue on the path passing the parked cars (with your dog on a lead) and follow the steps to the Career. It’s a climb, but the view from the top is great. Watch out for whales during migration season.

Then retrace your steps to Terrigal Beach. It is also possible to complete this route from Terrigal Haven or to or from Career, thanks to the large car parks that make this place easy to park.
One of the most dog-friendly beaches on the Central Coast is located between Copacabana Beach and Macmasters Beach. This long sandy off-leash park is a great place to walk your dog.
The off-rope section of the beach begins in the center of Copacabana Beach, south of the patrol section, entrance approximately opposite 230 Del Monte Place. It then continues south to the center of Macmasters Beach, stopping again well before the patrol unit.
The length of the beach is 750 m, which makes a nice long walk, which is the best of all the beaches. Between the two beaches is the mouth of the Cockrone Lagoon. Dogs usually like to swim in sea water, but beware of pollution after rain. Dogs are also not allowed in the surrounding area away from the beach.

Another state forest with hiking trails near the Central Coast is Olney State Forest. It is located approximately 40 minutes northwest of Tuggerah, off the Morriset Highway.
The forest in this region also has an open access road, which is generally maintained in good condition and is good for 2-wheeled vehicles. However, if you have a 2WD vehicle, skip it after heavy rain or if you don’t like driving on unpaved roads.
A good bush walk is the Pines Walking Track. The trail starts at the Pines picnic area (not the nearby Pines Campground). The 1.7 km trail follows Dora Creek, passing through pockets of moist eucalyptus and rainforest, en route to a beautiful rock pool. Take up to 45 minutes for a walk.
Note that the nearby Abbotts Falls Walking Track is not entirely dog-friendly, as part of the trail along the German Falls Trail crosses the nearby Watagans National Park, where dogs are not allowed.
