Good Dog Friendly Beaches Near Me

Good Dog Friendly Beaches Near Me – We live in London and are lucky enough to be able to easily escape the capital and hit the beach within an hour or two with lots of dog friendly beaches. Last summer we enjoyed exploring West Sussex’s dog-friendly beaches, but today on the blog we’re sharing three dog-friendly sandy beaches in North East Kent between Margate and Broadstairs that you can visit with your dog all year round, so you don’t have to fear dog beach bans from May to September.

The good thing is that the beaches we are talking about are not far from each other, so if you are traveling by car, you can hop between them all in one day. Nearby are the seaside towns of Margate and Broadstairs, both of which have great things for dogs – more on that in a moment.

All the beaches we visited were sandy so I like low tide. Check tide times on Tideschart.com to get the most out of your trip.

The Uk’s Best Dog Friendly Beaches Revealed

Palm Bay Beach is Margate’s closest dog friendly beach all year round if you want to combine a visit to both. When we first arrived in Palm Bay it wasn’t immediately clear how you got from the walk to the beach, but once you find your way between the rocks, the beach is yours. There is plenty of sand on the beach to sniff, or in the case of one excited greyhound we saw, to climb up and down.

There is free street parking and a dog-friendly jet ski cafe at the end of the beach.

About ten minutes along the coast between Margate and Broadstairs you will find Kingsgate Bay, famous for its white chalk cliffs, sea caves and the much-photographed Kingsgate Bay Sea Arch. The water was still high when we visited so we couldn’t walk to the arch, but it was still a beautiful beach to visit.

Unfortunately there is no parking at Kingsgate Bay and beach access is a hit and a miss. The only immediate parking option is at the Captain Digby Pub (only dogs are allowed in the pub). It will probably set you back £20 if you don’t get there straight away.

You can drive to the famous Joss Bay Surf Beach with good parking and then walk to about Kingsgate Bay. 15 minutes. Please note that dogs are only allowed on Joss Bay Beach before 10:00 and after 18:00 from 1 May to 30 September.

Another option to stop off on the way is the Botany Bay Hotel, a 10-minute walk from Kingsgate Beach. Dogs are welcome in the bar and if you plan to stay overnight, dog friendly hotel rooms are also available.

Last but not least on our list is Dumpton Gap, the closest beach to Broadstairs – in fact you can walk from Dumpton Gap to Broadstairs in 15 minutes if you want to. Dumpton Gap was our favorite surprise of the afternoon. Be sure to go at low tide and you can walk along the beach with just the sand, sea and steep white cliffs as a backdrop, it’s quite impressive.

Parking is easy, with plenty of street parking at the beach entrance. Although it wasn’t open when we visited, Sam’s Café, overlooking the sand at the beach entrance, has a great reputation for welcoming people and pups alike.

Dog Friendly Gîtes In France That Are Close To The Beach

On our recent visit, Margate and Broadstairs were not open much due to lockdown, so a dog-friendly city guide will have to be the subject of a future guide. However, here are two dog things we have to say if you’re in the area…

Old Margate is home to one of our favorite pup accessories, Hiro + Wolf, and their sister brand Artisans & Adventures. Famous for its colorful and ethical pups and amazing voiceless guides, a visit to Margate with your four-legged friend isn’t complete without a visit to Hiro + Wolf. The Hiro and Wolfie brands give you a warm welcome, and in Wolfie’s case, giving him a treat can make him a friend for life.

A trip to the beach today wouldn’t be complete without ice cream. Luckily, at Morelli’s Gelato on Broadstairs seafront, you can get both a human and a puppy version, the latter of which is delicious depending on how quickly it’s consumed. Morelli’s Gelato is usually dog-friendly, but during the COVID-19 restrictions, you can take your Morelli’s fix (along with other dogs and people) to go.

With beach-friendly beaches and dog ice cream, we happily ended the day when we decided to explore this little corner of the Kent coast. The beaches of Kent may not be as close to us as South Londoners as the dog-friendly beaches of West Sussex, but they are definitely worth a visit.
