Seacliff is a hidden gem just outside the pretty seaside town of North Berwick and only 40 minutes from Edinburgh and less than two hours from Glasgow, making it easily accessible.

It’s great if you want to avoid the crowds heading to popular beaches like Portobello and Gullane, which attract more surfers, horse riders and picnickers than party-goers.
The beach is a wide arc of golden sand backed by dunes and grassy banks, with rock pools for small children to play.
Britain’s smallest harbor is believed to be home to a beach-accessible local crab.
Walk along the sand and enjoy the spectacular views of Bass Rock, famous for its sloop and lighthouse colonies and the ruins of Tantalon Castle.

There are no facilities here but north of Tantalon Castle or North Berwick there is a lovely cliff top cafe called The Drift with lots of places to eat and drink.
Seacliff was the top-rated dog-friendly beach by bathroom retailer Showers to You when it analyzed Google ratings and reviews for dozens of places around the country with no dog restrictions.
The privately owned beach, five miles from North Berwick, has paid parking and is accessed by a narrow road from the A198 to Auldham.
And here’s something you probably didn’t know – during the First World War, the surviving outbuildings of Seacliff House were used as a top secret naval base called HMS Scottish Seacliff!

Durdle Door Beach in Dorset was voted the number one dog-friendly beach in the UK, followed by Man O’War Beach and Three Cliffs Bay in Wales in third place.

Dog Friendly Tantallon Castle And Seacliff Beach, East Lothian
Seacliff Beach is probably one of the lesser known and quieter beaches overlooking the Firth of Forth. With lots of open space and golden sandy beaches, it’s ideal for dogs.
There is plenty to see and do, with impressive views of the Firth of Forth, impressive Bass Rock and the impressive ruins of nearby Tantallon Castle. Oh, and don’t forget to check out the interesting little harbor known as Gegan.
Best of all, there aren’t many people here, so it’s very easy to let your dog run every now and then and take him home for a ride.
