Dog Friendly Beaches East Coast – For most of us dog owners, there is nothing better than a walk on the beach with our dogs. For our dogs, this is an opportunity to run freely, chase a ball in the sand or pick up a stick in the water. For us, it’s the benefit of fresh air and a sea view, and then treating ourselves to coffee or ice cream.
The proximity to the beach is great for those with dogs, but for those of us who don’t, it’s the best choice for a pet-friendly vacation. And while we all love the warm summer months when we can spend our days soaking up the sun on the sand or paddling in the surf, dog owners are well aware of the seasonal restrictions for dogs on many of our beaches from May to October.

Luckily, it’s not all bad news. Many of the best beach towns in the Southwest have year-round dog-friendly beaches, and while they’re less crowded than most major beaches, they give us plenty of dog-walking opportunities throughout the season.
Of The Best Dog Friendly Beaches In Anglesey
So we’d like to provide a list of some of our dog friendly beaches in Devon, Cornwall and Somerset. Some are closed during the summer months and some are not, but this is a great list of places to spend beach days with your fur babies no matter the time of year.
A beautiful beach in North Devon, Instow is located at the mouth of the River Taw opposite the pretty town of Appledore. Its beautiful scenery and fine sand make it very crowded in summer. Dogs are allowed on some beaches throughout the year, although city end restrictions apply from 1 May to 30 September.
The ever-popular English Riviera has a number of beautiful beaches to offer its visitors, one of which is Midfoot Limestone. Set at the base of some stunning cliffs away from the hustle and bustle of Torquay, it is a tranquil place for you and your dog to enjoy the sea. The northeast side of the beach welcomes dogs year-round, but the southwest side is closed.
This beautiful coastal town has an equally beautiful pebble beach just outside the town. With its red cliffs and tranquil coves, it is a great place for hiking, and its eastern side is adjacent to the Otter Valley Wetland Reserve. Dogs are allowed year-round on the ends of the beach (except in the middle, where there is a year-round ban), east of the lime-burning parking lot, and west of the western end of the event.
The Best Jacksonville Area Dog Friendly Beaches: Fun In The Sun With Fido
We head back to Torquay where we find our favorite dog friendly beaches. This beach is located directly opposite Torre Abbey and its gardens and is ideal for families with small children who want to swim in its gentle waters. If you’re on holiday outside the summer season, this is a great place to take your dog for a walk, especially if he likes to walk with other dogs.
Santan Sands in North Devon, surrounded by a large system of sandbanks (the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Brownton Burrows), is a running beach with miles of open space where dogs can run around all year round!
This beautiful beach is located in the heart of Quantock, on the Jurassic Coast. Although the beach is mostly rocky, there are plenty of rock pools to explore at low tide, and the large grassy cliff behind the beach is ideal for a picnic.
This stretch of beach near Burnham-on-Sea is a great place for a leisurely walk with the dog next to the Lower White House on stilts, built in 1832.
Dog Friendly Beaches In South Devon
The beach around the lighthouse is dog friendly all year round, unlike Burnham-on-Sea’s main beach, which is closed from May to September.
Just north of busy Weston-super-Mare, Sand Bay is a long, flat stretch of sand and gravel. It is supported by grassy sands, giving it a wonderfully wild appearance; perfect for you and your four-legged family members to get back to nature. This beach is dog friendly all year round.
Nestled at the mouth of the River Hayle Estuary, beautiful Portkidney Sands Beach is a great place to spend time whatever the weather, with miles of golden sand and clear waters perfect for walking the dogs. Dogs are welcome on the beach all year round, however please keep them on the path from St. Union Church to the beach.
This National Trust beach, near Newquay, is dog-friendly all year round and has plenty of sand and rocks for you to explore. The beach is popular with families due to the calm and protected area of Pentaire Point West.
Best Dog Friendly Beaches In Maine To Discover In 2024
The perfect combination of wild beauty and miles of golden sand makes this beach on the north Cornwall coast a dream destination for dogs. Dogs are welcome year-round, and the Southwest Trail offers more opportunities to explore.
Further north, close to Bute Beach, is the National Trust beach at Sandymouth, a favorite with local dog owners. About a mile long, it is mostly hollow at high tide, but opens up to a wide expanse of sand at low tide. This beach is dog friendly all year round, but check tide times as it is not accessible at high tide.

Have you been to Camber Sands before? Well I don’t, but after checking “one sand near me” here is one of the results. Although there have been a lot of negative reports lately about people going to the beach during the coronavirus pandemic, as well as photos of crowded beaches in Bournemouth, Brighton and other popular destinations, we decided to spend a day at the beach the other day. September The start of the new school term is our concept that the beaches should be quiet. Not to mention that I love summer and want to preserve the beautiful summer days for as long as possible until next summer.
Fantastic Destinations For Dog Friendly Vacations On The East Coast In 2024
There are few sandy beaches on the south coast; most are sand or gravel. During the day there was a competition with dogs and a sandy beach. Camber Sands in East Sussex won our overall vote after we realized there was plenty of sand on the beach and low tide at lunchtime was the best time to visit, exposing us to a wide expanse of beautiful golden dog sand. and competition around.
We took a quick look at Trip Advisor and most of the reviews were very positive. Bags of towels, doggy bags, antibacterial gel, baby wipes and masks (just in case) and off we go! The drive took about an hour and a half, after which we tried to find a parking spot near the beach. We discovered that not all beaches were dog friendly when we pulled into the parking lot and found a large sign that said, “Dogs are not allowed on this beach, ask the staff.” Luckily, there was an attendant at the parking kiosk who advised us to just drive to the end of the road, and there was a dog-friendly parking area near the beach. It took us about a minute to get to this parking lot and it was easy.
It was truly an amazing sight to see! I took off my shoes in the car as the sandy road to the beautiful grassy beach provided a great view of the deep blue sea against the blue sky.
We walked along the beautiful beach towards the sea, which, considering it was September, was so welcoming and warm. Both dogs were happy to be tied inside for shooting and paddling until we bought a frisbee, which encouraged a lot of play. They are fun to watch in the water as they jump through the waves and encourage them to swim with a dog paddle. This is a far cry from the dogs we adopted from Paws.
