Dog-friendly Vacations Near New York – New York City is the best place for dogs! Most people who live in the city like to leave their small rooms and take their dogs with them, which means that every neighborhood has many restaurants, shops, and parks. Lucy and I enjoyed a long weekend in NYC and had a great time. Thanks for being part of the gals we hang out with! Have you ever thought about planning a dog friendly trip to New York City? [ Editor’s Note: This post was originally written for a large pet dealer’s blog. I had to withdraw the post after a few months hoping to publish it. I have learned that most of the articles in their site recommend places, experiences and products that the authors have not personally tested with their dogs. I don’t think so when the site asked me to add jobs in New York City, which Lucy and I have not visited.

New York: Visiting Central Park With Dogs

Explore all the places we have visited there will be many places to cover! You can take the subway, which allows dogs on carriers, or take a taxi or ride-sharing like Via or Uber, which allows large dogs. It’s a good idea to ask the driver if your dog is okay before getting in the car, but everyone told us yes! So if you are thinking of bringing your dog to New York, you can do it easily. If you’ve never taken your dog on holiday before, it’s a good idea to click here to learn more about taking your dog on holiday (and where you can take them) .

I’m new to Via, but we like it because they usually send a 10-passenger van, so there’s plenty of room for a big dog like Lucy.

Of course NYC is very walkable! Be aware of how hot your dog can get. It is a good idea to measure the temperature of the pavement on your own bare feet. If you can’t do it in 7 seconds, it’s too hot for your dog and you need to get in the car.

The best part of traveling with your child is checking out dog friendly hotels and their amenities. You can find some dog friendly hotels on websites like www.petswelcome.com, there are many to choose from. Lucy loved jumping on the king size bed at the hotel in Rivington (our friends at WTFrenchie were there the same week we were in town). The hotel welcomes two dogs per room, so it’s a good choice if you’re traveling with a small pack! The best thing about this hotel is that it is only a few blocks away from the most popular dogs in town! D.B.A. East Village welcomes dogs in the bar and in the back garden. Be prepared to be impressed by other dog-loving customers as you enjoy their wide selection of beers.

Next time we’re in NYC, Lucy and I should check out the Soho Grand Hotel, WTFrenchie was there too! It has special floors for pets and a special rooftop dog park designed by Rebecca Cole, one of Oprah’s favorite architects. This hotel pulls out all the stops for your pup by providing organic food, bedding, food and water bowls, and doggy bags. The best part? No pet fee!

Another option when visiting the Big Apple with your dog is to do as we did and go to Brooklyn, where you can pick up hotels. Lucy and I stayed at the Even Hotel, walking distance from Prospect Park. The room is small, but it has hard floors, which is great for a dog friendly room!

A highlight of our entire visit is the free time throughout Prospect Park from 5am to 9am and 9pm to 1pm. Dogs of all shapes and sizes frolic on the grass along nearly a mile of the main lawn. The park also has a dog beach if your dog likes to swim! Lucy must stay beautiful, so she does not have a beach!

Which reminds me, as much as we all love our dogs, it’s no secret that weeds can cause serious problems. Especially if you want to maintain a landscaped garden with lush green grass! Dining out with your dog in NYC is so easy during the summer. Every neighborhood has sidewalk cafes. Located directly across from one of Central Park’s entrances, Bluestone Lane on the Upper East Side is a great restaurant to take your dog to. Lucy and I went there with our package and asked for a table for 5 girls and 7 dogs and surprisingly they prepared it for us!

Like Brooklyn’s Prospect Park, Central Park welcomes dogs from 5 to 9 and 9 to 1. After enjoying one of the most iconic parks in the country (and a photo shoot with Natalie Seibers), we walked a trip to Bluestone Lane for their famous avocado toast and endless water for the dogs. The cafe has many umbrellas on the sidewalk and is on a wide street, so the dogs have plenty of shade and privacy to enjoy their visit.
