Exmouth Holiday Cottages & Self Quality Devonshire Holidays

Many of Exmouth and Ningaloo Reef’s attractions are dog-free, from swimming with whale sharks to snorkelling and hiking in the Cape Range National Park to spot whales on the beach. So what should you do with your dog? Here are my top tips for dog walking in Exmouth…

My favorite dog friendly beach near Exmouth is Bundegi Beach. This beach is a 10 minute walk north of Exmouth itself, right on the doorstep. This beach is in the valley but still has beautiful sand and clear water for swimming. Dogs are allowed on a leash on the beach.

For the more adventurous, there is a recommended snorkeling spot a few kilometers to the south, accessible by kayak. Look for signs along the boardwalk. Alternatively, you can find fish hanging around the boat while snorkeling, but don’t expect to see coral here.

There used to be a friendly beachside cafe, The Beach Shack. However, at the end of 2023 they are closing and moving to the town center – see below for more information about their new venue, The Shack Exmouth.

Holiday Cottages With Hot Tubs In Exmouth

For the best views up and down the coast, climb Vlamingh Head Lighthouse, 15 minutes’ drive northwest of Exmouth. A simple but beautiful path leads to the lighthouse, which is no longer in use, and has been replaced by the light of the communication tower to the right. Dogs are not allowed, but must be kept on a leash.

The lighthouse near the garage is a popular spot for sunset. Just be warned that many mosquitoes come before sunset after rain. The tour is the best place on the coast to see the whales that travel to Ningaloo Reef every winter.

Exmouth is home to not one but two industries. We went to Whalebone Brewing Company, located in the business district on the south side of town. It is dog friendly (even from 2023 until 5 pm) with a large outdoor area. It is also suitable for children with toys and a sandbox.

At the time of our visit there were seven domestically produced beers and three foreign beers. Trials come in three different sizes, from five glasses to nine flavors. If you’re feeling fancy, you can choose from a range of pizzas, including some made in children’s versions. Double check the different opening times between seasons.

Dog Friendly Holiday Parks In Devon

Froth Craft Brewery is the second brewery in town. Located next to the main store, this store is attached to a full restaurant offering an extensive menu. There are several tables outside where well-behaved dogs are welcome. Like Whalebone, there is live music on select nights.

While the best snorkeling spots near Exmouth are in the Cape Range National Park and dogs are strictly prohibited, this is not the case at Coral Bay. It’s worth a day visit (it’s only a 90 minute drive) or longer.

The main beach at Coral Bay does not allow dogs, with signs at each entrance. But dogs are allowed in the grass park behind the beach and in the car park. If you’re not going solo, maybe turn on a snorkel and take care of your dog?

Alternatively, the beaches on the south side of the point are dog friendly. The main dog beach is Paradise Beach, between the pier and the boat ramp, but can be accessed by an unmarked 4WD track.
