The 28 mile long St. George Island is divided into three parts. State Park St. George’s Island stands nine miles to the east. The middle section has access to the public beach, residential areas, restaurants, shops and other businesses. The West Side is an exclusive, gated community with its own runway and some of the most expensive homes in the Gulf of Mexico.
Our first stop was at a state park and we found that the campground and trails were pet friendly, but the beaches were not. Still, it’s nice to have a little variety and our dogs enjoyed the 2.5 mile Gap Point Trail through the pine forest. (Parking is at the campground, and the track goes to the left of the playground.)
