Dogs need adventures, a change of scenery and time to run and hey, we do it – one of the great things about owning a dog is having fun exercising instead of being cooped up in the gym. But, it is not always possible to go for a longer walk to get enough exercise for your dog. Fear not – we’ve compiled a list of all the best places to take your child within easy driving distance of downtown Denver. Try these dog-friendly walks for a fun way to improve your K9’s routine and keep them clean and healthy.
Located up the hill from Elk Meadows Park, this place can be hard to find at first (tip: turn at the only Taco Bell in Evergreen and follow that road) but once you do that, it’s worth it. This trail is as fun for people as it is for dogs and has some cool rock climbing, nice benches and 14’s and great views of the hills. The best part is that no cord is required. As long as your dog has the necessary shots and is safe around people and dogs, you can walk the trails without the hassle of looking after a captive dog. The park also has two different options, including two trails as well as a fenced yard. And the icing on the cake? The location is only 25 minutes from the city center along South Broadway.

While Red Rocks isn’t Denver’s entertainment hub for all things musical, it’s a great place to work and walk. Although it may not be as much fun as the outdoors, there are different routes you can take, so there is something for the athlete with a Labrador retriever and the couple with an old basset hound alike. . Plus, the views are amazing and you’re so far away – just outside Morrison’s, where you can grab a bite to eat before heading back into town.

If you’re up for the challenge and drive a little longer to the Boulder area, this hike is well worth it. You’ll have to work to get to the top, but once you do, you’ll be greeted with a beautiful view of the incredible Flatirons. Best of all, this trail is outside of Boulder, so you can grab lunch and hit the dog park before heading up, making the trip even easier with an already tired dog.

It’s probably far away because it’s in spring, but every Coloradan should see the beauty that is the Garden of the Gods, a famous stone landmark. Opposite the park is another beautiful park called Red Rocks Open Space. Making it the ultimate stop for all dog lovers, it’s not only less touristy, but also offers a more unusual alternative to GOTG. That’s right, enjoy the majesty of the red rocks and blue skies of Colorado while your dog runs happily around your feet. The only downside: Be prepared to lug your dirt bags with you as the only trash cans are at the entrance to the park.
While this isn’t the way out, it’s still a great option to check in with your furry friend. The variety of trails here will keep them going for hours, and the magnificent views will keep you entertained while they’re at it. Also, dogs love water, and the added attraction of a stream running along the path is a fun way for them to cool off in hot weather. Plus, the park has great picnic spots and open spaces to explore, so you can stay all day. And best of all, it’s only about half an hour outside the city.
Exploring Dog Friendly Silverton & Ouray, Co
This walk is one of the closest to the city, while enjoying the great nature around Jefferson County, the hills, and Denver. The trail is located in the open area of Jefferson County and is the longest hike that crosses the creek and has great views of the hills and mountains in the distance. With plenty of picnic areas and other short stops along the way, this is the perfect solution for a dog who needs to blow off a lot of steam outside without having to venture too far from your own backyard.
Better than number six, this route is great for a dog that needs to be walked all day on a day when you don’t have time to go out on the town. The trail was originally located in Denver, along the Platte River in the Adams County area of what was then the agricultural center of Denver. You can still see the countryside, and if it’s a five-hour drive, if you choose to do the whole thing, you’ll get the most out of walking along the beach and enjoying the water. It works perfectly for a day off when you don’t have gas money or don’t have a car but still want to spend quality time with your baby. And of course, you don’t have to do the whole election, so you can even make it a short trip and you don’t have to go too far from home.
Like number three, it offers great views and a great time looking at the flat passes, and is a great stop if you’re planning to visit Boulder. Try walking your baby for three miles and watch, and when you finish the route you’ll be ready to relax in the city or go home, and so will your fur baby.
Also known as the Arapahoe Blue Trail, this trail is located in Littleton and is an easy 15-minute drive outside of the city. There are many ways to get here with your child and many opportunities to let them burn off their energy. In addition, you can still see the city. This is a great option if you have limited time but have a lot to explore.
