Kusu Island (“Kusu” means “turtle” in the Hokkien dialect) is one of the southern islands most popular for its Chinese temple, the Da Bo Gong Temple. On the temple grounds, there are many turtles at the Turtle Shrine and a pair of rock turtles said to guard the front of the Turtle Lagoon. The island also has a wishing well where you can drop coins into an artificial lotus flower and then make a wish with your furry best friend and three Malay shrines where devotees walk the 152 steps to the shrines and pray. There is also the annual Kusu Pilgrimage, held every ninth lunar month of the year, where thousands of devotees come to this island to pray for good health, prosperity and fertility. Sister Island is a southern island said to originate from a popular fairy tale where two brothers were separated by pirates and both drowned, creating two islands. These two islands are called Big Sister’s Island (Pulau Subar Laut) and Small Sister’s Island (Pulau Subar Darat). That said, it is now designated as a marine park managed by the National Parks Board of Singapore, where you can learn about our native marine biodiversity. Little Sister Island is not open to the public. Big Sister’s Island offers many activities such as snorkeling and diving (only for humans of course), swimming, picnic lunch, tidal walking (only at low tide). This is probably the best place if you want to take a short trip with your best furry friend but don’t want to spend too much money. You can also visit the famous Coney Island rustic park where you can watch birds, explore nature with your dog in Casuaria Exploration (playground / outdoor adventure) and don’t forget to take pictures of the abundant nature with your dogs. ! As you continue to explore the island, you will also explore many hidden beach areas, mangrove forests, coastal paths and many picnic spots!
