Often overlooked by tourists, Ness Cove is firmly in the hearts of locals due to its proximity to the ever popular Teignmouth! The beach is hidden beneath the Jurassic cliffs of Ness Headland and must be passed through a smugglers’ tunnel with a curious name.

It is important to check the tide table before visiting Ness Cove Beach as most of the sand is submerged at high tide. However, at low tide, beautiful sand is encountered. There are no restrictions on the dog walker other than the usual task of cleaning up after the pet, so you are free to take off the lead and swim together. Marker buoys prevent boats from accessing swimming areas when lifeguards are not present. There are no actual beach facilities, but toilets, cafes and shops can be found at the top of the tunnel.

Ferry Cove is hidden just behind Paignton’s harbor walls, with red sand and stunning red sandstone cliffs behind. At low tide, the beach is separated from the sea by a stone cliff decorated with a rock pool that will delight children and dogs.
Located next to the Burma Star Memorial Park, commemorating those who fought in Burma and Southeast Asia during World War II, it fits the peaceful theme of the well-preserved beach, an oasis of calm in this busy part of town. is Fairy Cove Beach is a great beach for families and doesn’t have many facilities, but there are plenty of cafes, shops and public toilets near Paignton Harbour.
Lynmouth lies below the village of Lynmouth on the northern edge of Exmoor National Park and is surrounded by high hills, mountains and magnificent forests. The beach here is about 500 meters wide and can provide a great place for your dog to let off some steam in the summer. Lynmouth is also known as one of the best surf spots in Devon in the right conditions, and is also a great spot for fishing and swimming at low tide. In terms of facilities, there is ample parking on the beach during the summer, a souvenir shop, a fish bar and public toilets and deck chairs are available for rent. The Linton Cliff Railway takes visitors from the cliffside to the town of Linton and is well worth a visit.
