Although there is plenty of entertainment and attractions for pets, it is difficult to find dog-friendly museums in the UK.

Fortunately, there are a few places that allow dogs. (Some even welcome them!) Including historic buildings. Transport museums, hill towns and living history sites These are the best dog museums in the UK that you shouldn’t miss.

The British Museum is dog friendly. Allowing different animals to visit you. This museum preserves human history, art and culture with the largest permanent collection of eight million works.

Pets are no longer allowed in the British Museum! Unfortunately, at the time of this writing they have removed this line from the website: “Pets, helpers and pets are welcome. Including assistance dogs currently being trained at the museum,” the museum told me. Confirmed in email that it is not dog friendly.

The Brook Museum and Art Gallery is open from April to autumn. And dogs are always welcome. It is a large museum with various exhibits. My favorite part is the medieval part of the brook on the upper level where you can run past the dragons with your dog. And there are lots of funny pictures too.

Barter Books in Alnock is one of the world’s great second-hand bookshops, utterly charming in its character and reminiscent of a former railway station.

There is a children’s corner, and don’t forget to look for the miniature train above the bookshelves. Dogs are welcome in bookstores. (There’s seating, too.) And there’s a dog-friendly section of the cafe. Watch this video about our visit to Barter Books with Fozzie.

Hexham Old Town is located in the heart of Hexham and is dog friendly throughout. Open from April to autumn. This museum is the oldest preserved prison. and tells the story of what life was like for convicts in the 1300s, with interactive exhibits including tours of the stockade and dungeons.

Warkworth Castle was one of the places we visited with Fozzie and Ollie. It’s not very big so it was enough to visit and the town of Warkworth is very dog friendly. And the castle often holds ceremonial events.

Dogs can travel for free on Britain’s oldest train. And on non-special days, Tenfield asks that dogs be kept on leashes and not in their own areas. It’s a nice little hike and also a nice walk around Goat Arch.
