Endeavor Pub is named after Captain Cook’s famous sailing ship in Whitby and offers a great family atmosphere with plenty of dog treats. During the day you can enjoy a variety of beers and wines, and although the pub does not serve food, it does have a tapas bar and the owner will be happy to take lunch for you to enjoy at home (a specialty selling chips in minutes).
This quaint little shop always offers a bowl of water for visiting dogs. Again, the amount of food on offer is limited (although you can get snacks at the bar), but the good beer and excellent Guinness make up for it. Unfortunately, there is no food available at this particular store. However, there are plenty of good dog-friendly restaurants in the area.
The Fleece is a quiet traditional pub and popular country pub located at the top of Church Street as you leave the town. This is the place to visit if you want to hear old fisherman’s stories while enjoying a good pint. Food is not served here, but there are many good restaurants in the area that will please both your dog and your pooch.
First In Last Out is a lovely traditional pub with darts, quiz night, jukebox and occasional live entertainment. While watching TV, you can enjoy the famous beer on tap or try one of the four real beers. Although not in the center of Whitby (about a mile along the coast), the White House is worth a visit as it welcomes dogs with open arms. The Seaview Restaurant offers stunning views of the North Sea and Whitby Golf Course, making it a great place to enjoy food and drink. The white house also has a beautiful terrace where you can enjoy the day while your dog relaxes in the shade.
Although not in Whitby, the Windmill Inn deserves a mention as it is an excellent pub. The Windmill is located in Stainsacre, about 3 miles from the center of Whitby, and is a stop on Whitby’s beautiful walking trails. Dogs are welcome on the terrace and in the beer garden, where plenty of free refreshments are available.
Again, this pub is not in the center of Whitby, but its large portions and reasonable prices make it a good place to stop and eat when visiting nearby Sandsend. Like the Windmill, the Hart Inn is located on many hiking trails, making it a great place to stop for a break. Dogs are allowed on the terrace and in the nice beer garden. It should be noted that this restaurant is very busy in the summer, so if you want to eat there, you need to make a reservation in advance.
Arch & Abbey is a nice, comfortable and relaxing place to have a drink with your dog. There is a great selection in this micropub. They sell four real ales, a real cider and a craft beer, along with three cask ales/lagers and craft ales and Yorkshire teas, gins and spirits and a selection of wines. There’s no music or TV, but you’ll find a chatty group of locals and visitors here. Plus they have tons of activities for dogs!
