I live near Asheville, North Carolina, but for the past nine years I have visited Asheville more often than anywhere else in the state. Our poodle, Andy, accompanied us there for two years. Traveling with a dog is like traveling with children. Both require extra work, but unlike small humans, dogs can’t go everywhere with you and can’t stay in all comfort. For this reason, as a pet owner, it is recommended to book a trip before you know that your four-legged family member is very grateful.

Asheville is considered one of the most pet-friendly states in the United States. I think this is an accurate representation of the city. Sometimes I saw as many dogs as people walking the streets during my visits. Located in downtown Asheville, the Aloft Hotel has the honor of being among the most pet-friendly hotels in the entire state of North Carolina.
Aloft Downtown Asheville operates a popular pet adoption program that allows a help dog to live at the hotel until it finds a permanent home. This program has been so successful that it has been tested at other hotels in the United States. By itself, the “dog lobby” is like a hotel greeting, your pet will feel like a dog or cat too. That’s right. I also said cats. The hotel does not discriminate against cats when it comes to its care. Cats, like dogs, are free to stay in the shelter. Cats, as you might expect, are not as visible in public places as dogs, but this time Andy met a feline guest in the lodge. If you have a cat or any animal allergy, please make sure to discuss this with the front desk before checking in.
I first stayed at the Aloft Downtown Asheville on Biltmore Avenue a few years ago. My daughter, who was five at the time, fell in love with the lobby of the hotel’s adoption program. Every year she insists that we go to the lobby of the Aloft Hotel to see who is available for adoption, even though we don’t live on property. I’ve actually stayed at the hotel a lot over the years because of the hotel’s great location in Asheville’s south Slope neighborhood. Will and I are craft beer lovers and this part of Asheville is where we spend the most time. Aloft Asheville is within walking distance of all of downtown Asheville. The Biltmore area is a short drive away.
The nightly rates at this place may seem higher than what you may experience in other hotels in different areas. The cost of hotels in Asheville is generally very high, especially downtown. In fact, on peak weekends, a room at the Aloft Downtown Asheville can cost travelers $400-$500 per night. Marriott rewards members like me a slight discount on these rates for brand loyalty.
Cabins Of Asheville
Many hotels charge a pet for traveling with a pet, but Aloft Downtown Asheville does not. All care is provided for this property. Parking is also available for a small price of $10 per day in the parking lot below the hotel.
Not only are stays free at Aloft Downtown Asheville, but there are no public areas at the hotel. At the Aloft Asheville, you can enjoy a taste of the WXYZ Lounge and bring your dog with you. I really like that you are at home when you stay there. I loved and think of Andy too.
Aloft Asheville is so friendly that it sometimes hosts fun social events called “Bow-Wow” for dogs and their owners. It’s fun to stay at this hotel because most of the guests share a love of entertainment.
In July, during my last stay, I found out that a woman has a dog at home that looks just like me, Andy. He lost his dog. I also joined a couple from New Jersey with a dog named Opie. I told them “Opie and Andy” were the perfect match for North Carolina. Fans of the Andy Griffith TV show will surely understand why.

Checked in at the Aloft in downtown Asheville, Andy received a dog care package. It took extra bags, water treats and bowls, plus a huge dog bed for at least one eight-pound poodle. The reception has a list of places where dogs can walk and have fun in the city.
