If your dog needs medical attention while visiting the Jurassic Coast, there are many veterinarians in the area who can provide emergency appointments. If you’re dreaming of a beach escape with your dog this summer, our guide to the best dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex is just what you need. Located on the south coast, between East Sussex on one side and Hampshire on the other, West Sussex is one of London’s most accessible coastal areas and home to many dog-friendly beaches all year round, even in summer. This means you can enjoy a day at the beach with your dog from London in less than two hours whenever you want.
For most of the beaches we visited, you can imagine being outside as the beach stretches out against a backdrop of clear blue skies with blue-green seas glistening in the sun! West Sussex’s beaches are mostly shingle beaches, but when the tide goes out, pups have miles of fine sand to play on. And let’s be honest, from the dogs’ point of view, they probably don’t care if the water is in or out – they’re just happy to have an adventure involving the ocean with their humans!
I grew up in West Sussex, so it’s a place I know and love. Although I never thought that I would come back many years later and visit the old places, not to find the best sunny spots like I did years ago, but to find the most very beaches where dogs are allowed and people can be with their dogs. .
We’ve been busy visiting lots of Sussex beaches (someone has to do it) and in putting this list together, we’ve taken into account many factors… the beach itself, any dog restrictions, how easy it is to coming there from London and all. Dog-friendly facilities nearby. Although the beach has dog-friendly facilities, always make sure to bring water for your dog to keep them hydrated and even a cool coat or scarf if you think they might need it.

So, here are some of our favorite dog-friendly beaches in West Sussex and the essential information you need to know to make the most of your dog’s day at the beach.
Top tip: When planning your day at the beach, don’t forget to check the tide times you can on this site – if your pup hasn’t used the sea yet, it’s best to visit at low tide. You can be sure that whether you visit at low tide or high tide, and the beach is shingle or sand, there’s a feeling you can’t beat when you’re in the ocean … with your dog of course.
Littlehampton West Beach is one of the few places you’ll find sand dunes in West Sussex (the best dunes we’ve found so far are at dog-friendly Camber Sands in East Sussex). The west coast, located next to the Arun River, stretches for miles until you reach Climbing (more on that below). There are actually two beaches in Littlehampton – East and West, one on each side of the river. The east coast is for swimmers in the summer, which is fair because dogs have their own designated beach on the west coast too. You can get to the beach by walking to the West Beach Cafe or walking on the boardwalk through the sand dunes that surround the back of the cafe (we like).
It may not be as famous as others but it is a great beach to visit with your dog thanks to the wide beach, the beautiful wooden beachside café Perch on Lancing Beach and the large green area behind the beach for the dogs to roam. The Perch has resident dog Harry, plenty of indoor and outdoor seating for people and dogs, and a varied menu for lunch or dinner (dinner available in summer).
Dog Friendly Beaches In Orange County
Another wide dog-friendly beach with a very popular dog-friendly café that we came specifically to check out… Bluebird Café. The cafe has a real beach vibe and is colorful and welcoming to people and dogs throughout. You’ll also see a lovely row of colorful beach huts nestled away on the sand – not quite the same as the West Wittering Beach Huts but perfect for photos.
The fastest beach can be reached from London by train, and like all its counterparts in West Sussex, it offers miles of shingle beach and is dog friendly all year round. But after spending time on the beach, we are always on the lookout for a dog-friendly cafe, and since there is no cafe directly on the beach, we recommend going to another train stop to Lansing Beach, tan- see #2 above.
Climping Beach is the beach you should go to if you want to get away from it all. It feels quiet and remote even though it’s the next beach on the west coast of Littlehampton which you can walk to within an hour (note you also have to walk back if you leave your car at Climping). We had most of the beach to ourselves apart from a couple of other swimmers and a dog walker, so this is a great beach to go to if your dog needs some space.
When you arrive, dogs have their own “dog friendly parking” which we think is great! Essentially, this is because the car park and beach area to the left as you arrive is where dogs can be off leash, and the car park and beach area to the right is where dogs must be. on a leash. There is plenty of parking and there is a small cafe housed in a converted shipping container with plenty of seating on the grass outside.
