Seeing a familiar face while you are away helps dogs adapt to your absence. Write a checklist for your vet that includes details of feeding plans, any medical restrictions, and your vet’s emergency phone number.

Invest in pet-friendly technology. Just because you’re away from home doesn’t mean you can’t socialize with your pet! There are now many indoor camera options designed for pet owners. Not only do these cameras allow you to see what your pet is doing, they also allow you to talk to your pet using a speaker, and some even allow you to give treats via an app!
Update your dog’s tags and microchips. If you live in an apartment or house that is not fenced, there is an unfortunate risk that your pet will escape, especially if it is used only to obey your commands. It is important to make sure your child’s ID tags are displayed on their collar and their microchip is up to date so that the right people know where your child is as soon as they are found.
“Puppy guide” your home. Just as you’ve made sure your home is safe from a teething puppy, you’ll need to do the same for any dog who has been left alone for long periods of time or may be stressed by your departure. Chewing is caused by separation anxiety, so it’s important to keep anything dangerous out of your puppy’s reach to avoid endangering his health and to protect your belongings from damage.
Consider boarding your dog. One of the safest ways to keep your dog safe while you are away is to leave him or her in the care of a professional pet. This will allow your dog to benefit from the constant attention of loving staff and engage other playful dogs.
